I’m not suggesting you hit the gym whilst on holiday, who wants to be indoors anyway? This article will look at fun ways to keep fit, some of which you probably already do and don’t even realise it.

Let nature be your gym

Regardless if you are on a beach holiday or climbing Snowdon, head to the water or mountains for your workouts. Take a deep breath in, head out and explore by hiking, running, walking, biking or even look at horse riding for a more adventurous twist. Try surfing, stand-up paddle boarding, snorkelling, windsurfing or kitesurfing.  Get some fresh air and wake up some muscles you may never have known you had.

Discover the area on foot or by bike

Ditch the heels, grab your trainers and explore. It’s the best way to get a feel for the place you are staying in.

Go for a run

If you’re lucky enough to go somewhere sunny, make sure you go at sunrise or at sunset when it’s not too hot. You’ll get a great workout with breathtaking scenery. Don’t forget your water!

Hiking is a fabulous way to keep fit during your holiday, it really works the calf muscles.

This is something you can do at any age.

Take advantage of the outside

Pretend you’re 10 again and climb a tree, swim in the river or run on the beach. All of which are free and breathing in all that fresh air can only do wonders for your mental health and lungs.

Yoga is brilliant and a fabulous exercise routine you can do on the beach, in the forest, on a paddle board, anywhere really. All you need is your mat (and sometimes not even that). Do 5 sun salutations first thing in the morning. This can be a complete practice. The poses lengthen and strengthen, flex and extend many of the main muscles of the body.

Exercise for your soul. Learning to breathe and focusing your attention on your breathing is something you need to practice but once you have, you will never look back. Once you have mastered your 3 part breathing you can use this to optimise your workouts in any setting.

Make a game of working out

Life should be fun too, look around you, you can pretty much make an exercise routine out of anything and anywhere. Who cares who’s watching, just have fun!
